Installation Instructions

Use CAUTION when installing or modifying telephone lines.  Never install telephone equipment during a lightning storm.

Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.

Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.

The Toll Call Restrictor (TCR) is designed for use on single line telephone jacks.  If you have two phone lines coming to one jack you will need two TCRs to accommodate the two lines.

Remove the existing jack from the wall.  There may be one or two pair of wires (two or four wires) connected. You will only use one pair (two wires) on the TCR.  If there is more than one pair of wires:

  • Choose the pair colored RED and GREEN if there is such a pair

  • Choose the pair colored BLUE and BLUE/WHITE if there is such a pair.

For any extra wires you have except the chosen pair, cut any uninsulated (bare) wire off and fold these extra wires back and wrap them around the incoming cable for neatness.

Connect your chosen pair of wires to the TCR on the raised screw terminals, which have slotted head screws.  DO NOT connect any wires under the phillips head screws on the circuit board.  Always be sure that all connections are tight.

Mount the TCR onto the wall:

  • If you have the wall plate model, attach the TCR with the screws that were holding the old wall plate in place.

  • If you have the surface mount model, attach the TCR with the adhesive backing on the TCR and (or) use the included screw through the hole in the TCR circuit board.
